Some clients come to counselling because they feel disappointed with the way that life is turning out but are unable to pinpoint anything in particular which is making them feel this way.
They may say things like:
I thought that I would have achieved more in my life by now.
I feel stuck.
I feel restless.
It seems as though everyone else has got their life sorted out and I haven’t got a clue.
So Why Therapy?
It’s like your life is a movie.
You’re watching it and you’re in it.
At the same time.
The only problem is that it’s like you’ve turned up at the wrong set
Because everyone else seems to know their lines
And you…haven’t got a clue.
Can Counselling Help?
It can be really hard to admit that we feel disappointed. Some people worry about what others might think of them if they stop pretending that everything is going well. It may feel safe to wear a ‘mask’ but this can lead to emotional problems. When we talk to friends and family, they may try to offer us solutions or tell us to ‘pull ourselves together’. This can make us feel guilty and even a bit lost. Talking to a counsellor can help you to gain a new perspective. It can help you to realise that you have choices and help you to decide what you want out of life.
